Seasonal Outlook.

A confidential experimental forecast for the next season (up to fifteen months ahead) is issued in September / October. The forecast is based on the selection of a previous year to be used as a guide, or analogue, for the coming season. The actual year is selected from Lamond Weather's assessment of global and southern hemisphere weather circulations and atmospheric and ocean anomolies and especially from the current and projected behaviour of ENSO (El Nino - Southern Oscillation) events. The subscriber also receives an updated assessment at approximately monthly intervals on the latest seasonal trends. This update includes a more detailed outlook for the following 4 - 6 weeks in which the likely timing of significant rainfall events is advised.

The 4 - 6 week outlook is based on the monitoring and extrapolations of the pattern of long atmospheric waves that move around the southern hemisphere and the timing of significant outflows of moisture from the tropics which in turn is based on the analysis and extrapolation of of the 40 - 50 day Madden - Julian wave in the equatorial regions.

Lamond Weather maintains private contact with national and overseas meteorological authorities which make routine assessments of changes in global weather developments (for example the Southern Oscillation and the El Nino events) and the periodic shifts in the blocking patterns which affect the motion of long atmospheric wave patterns around the hemisphere.

A subscription covering twelve months can be entered at any time of the year.

Full Comprehensive Service

A full annual subscription to the Lamond Weather comprehensive service includes access to the above listed services.

The hours of telephone service are extended by arrangement to maintain the best possible watching brief on the incidence of severe weather. A calendar of weather-sensitive farm activites in maintained in collaboration with each client.

Confidential advice is always available on developments several weeks ahead, in addition to the seasonal outlook and updates.

Lamond Weather forecasters are available each day of the week to clients, for telephone advice and discussion on weather conditions likely to affect farming operations such as seeding, spraying, harvesting, haymaking, fertilizing, grain carting, burning off, and many aspects of animal husbandry such as shearing, mulesing, dipping etc.

Forecasts of all elements - probability of occurance and intensity of rainfall, wind strength, relative humidity, sunshine, heatwaves, cold outbreaks, fire danger etc - are provided on a time scale ranging from a few hours to several days ahead.

By arrangement a watch can be maintained on particular weather events which may affect a farming operation, and the client advised of any sudden developments not previously forecast. A personalised service is thus available between the client and Lamond Weather throughout the year.

Our services are not intended as a substitute for the generalised district forecasts issued by weather bureaus, but should be more specific and accurate in respect of individual locations and the particular needs of farmers. We are connected to the regular national weather service data networks but are not tied to the routine issue of forecasts and are able to be more timely with our advice; for example, we track the movement of frosts and cloud bands as they are photographed directly by weather satellites at 1 - 3 hour intervals.

Correspondance and liasion are encouraged.

This service also now includes regular fax advice of significant or weekly weather.

Lamond Weather prefers to enlist subscribers for the full service to develop a well-integrated liasion with clients, and therefore offers a substantial discount for this subscription.

Annual Subscription: $700 + G.S.T = $770.
